Smartphone Market in India set to grow with Technology Giants

Will Apple Triumph In India

India is a mecca for Technologically saavy individuals and many businesses – especially in the Internet and Programing industry have moved to India for economic reasons. But even with all the skilled workers there in the internet world, there is a great void in the smartphone industry.

That is all set to change as Phillips – a leading technology consortium has just announced that it will enter the Indian Smartphone market with a new range of phones.

Philips will launch a range of smartphones and feature phones on Wednesday, as the Dutch consumer electronics maker re-enters the extremely competitive and crowded Indian smartphone market which is one of the fastest growing in the world.

A company spokesperson said that Philips brand of feature phones and smartphones will be launched on May 28 in New Delhi by Sang Fei Consumer Communications Co.

Sang Fei, a joint venture between Royal Dutch Philips Electronics Ltd andShenzhen SED Industry Co Ltd, will introduce the devices in India, almost seven years after China Electronics Corporation(CEC), the parent group of Sang Fei, acquired the global mobile phone business of Philips in February, 2007.

This will be a welcome venture and no doubt will generate much needed boost in the niche market. However, another tech giant is set to cause waves in India too with the introduction of the Apple Iphone 5c and is set to sell at 33500r.

Obviously the costs of these Iphones are often considered to be out of the reach of the average working individual in India and so the new Phillips smartphones will have a unique opportunity capture another section of the industry without having to compate with the Apple Giant.
Apple iPhone 5c didn’t do well in India. Even before the official launch, it was retailing for Rs.35,000 in gray markets such as Delhi’s Gaffar market and Mumbai’s Heera Panna market. Some stores were even selling it for Rs.30,000 without bill. Soon after the launch, Apple started a limited period buyback on the iPhone 5c but this offer was only for a short duration. The starting price of the iPhone 5s 16GB isRs.53,500 but the phone is retailing for Rs.47,000 in the local market as well as online retail stores. Credits: Apple iPhone 5c 8GB arrives in India, to sell at Rs 33500 – India Today
